Mara Elatia Camp is a luxury tented retreat in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, perched on the Oloololo Escarpment. The name “Elatia” means “The Good Neighbor” in the Maa language, signifying the camp’s relationship with the local Maasai community and its surrounding ecosystem.

Location and access
  • Location: Situated in the heart of the Mara Triangle, a game-rich section of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the camp is also part of the private Partakilat conservancy. This location provides exclusive access to wildlife and offers sweeping views of the plains and the Mara River, which is famous for the annual wildebeest migration.
  • Accessibility: Guests can reach the camp via a scenic 45-minute flight from Nairobi to the nearby Kichwa Tembo airstrip or by a 6-hour drive.
Accommodation and amenities
  • Tented rooms: The camp features 16 spacious, luxuriously appointed tents. Each tent includes a modern en-suite bathroom with a rain shower, a private balcony with panoramic views, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
  • Family-friendly: The camp offers two family tents that feature interconnecting rooms, making them suitable for families traveling together.
  • Dining and bar: Mara Elatia has a dining area, a lounge with an open-deck bar, and a bonfire pit, all of which overlook the plains for unbridled wildlife viewing.
  • Facilities: Additional amenities include 24-hour electricity, a boutique shop, a mini-library, laundry services, and a nearby medical facility.

Activities
  • Game drives: Both day and night game drives in custom-built 4×4 vehicles are available, providing opportunities to spot wildlife, including the “Big Five” (leopard, lion, rhino, buffalo, and elephant).
  • Rhino sanctuary: The camp is involved with a private rhino sanctuary, where guests can safely observe the white rhino population.
  • Cultural experiences: Guests can visit a nearby Maasai village, interact with the community, and learn about the local culture.
  • Other activities: Activities like guided nature walks, bush meals, sundowners, and visits to the Kalema Hills (where the film Out of Africa was filmed) are also on offer.
